ISO/IEC 17011:2017

The rules that apply to us.

ISO/IEC 17011 sets out the requirements for accreditation bodies. This page explains how DunavCert applies them — from impartiality to its management system.

About the standard

The standard for accreditation bodies

ISO/IEC 17011 is the international standard that sets out requirements for the competence, consistent operation and impartiality of accreditation bodies that assess and accredit conformity assessment bodies.

While ISO/IEC 17021-1, ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17020 apply to the bodies we accredit, ISO/IEC 17011 applies to us. It governs our organization, the competence of our staff, our accreditation process and our management system.

Structure of the standard

Six groups of requirements

The requirements of the standard are grouped into six clauses. For each, we explain what it means in DunavCert's work.

4

General requirements

Legal status, the accreditation agreement, rules for use of the accreditation symbol and impartiality across the whole body.

5

Structural requirements

An organizational structure with clearly defined responsibilities, in which assessment and decision-making are separated.

6

Resource requirements

Competent assessors, technical experts and decision makers, with records of qualification, training and monitoring.

7

Process requirements

Application, assessment, decision, the accreditation cycle, extension, suspension and withdrawal, complaints and appeals.

8

Information requirements

Confidentiality of information about the bodies we assess and public availability of accreditation information.

9

Management system requirements

Control of documents and records, corrective actions, internal audits and management reviews.

Impartiality

How we safeguard impartiality

Impartiality is the basis of every accreditation decision. We apply the following measures:

  • Assessment and decision-making are carried out by different people.
  • Risks to impartiality are identified and analysed on an ongoing basis.
  • All staff and assessors sign confidentiality and conflict-of-interest declarations.
  • We do not provide consultancy or conformity assessment services.
  • Accreditation is available to every body that meets the requirements, on equal terms.
